Our friend, John Fugelsang, just appeared on the Ali Velshi show. As always he was quite elegant in explaining this.
(Technically abortion IS mentioned in the Bible, once. Numbers 5:11–31 speaks about a procedure that “causes the womb to miscarry.” As we’ve experienced directly, trolls will go round and round about this for hundreds of hours. Cognitive dissonance is very painful to them related to this topic. We’re not going to debate it. It says what it says. The end. It’s not the focus of this post.)
The History of Abortion as a “Christian” Right Political Wedge Issue In The United States
The ‘Biblical View’ That’s Younger Than The Happy Meal — “In 1979, McDonald’s introduced the Happy Meal. Sometime after that, it was decided that the Bible teaches that human life begins at conception.”
The Real Origins of the Religious Right
(This is how they did it. This is how they turned it into what it is today.)
They’ll tell you it was abortion. Sorry, the historical record’s clear: It was segregation (Racism) — “The abortion myth quickly collapses under historical scrutiny. In fact, it wasn’t until 1979—a full six years after Roe—that evangelical leaders, at the behest of conservative activist Paul Weyrich, seized on abortion not for moral reasons, but as a rallying-cry to deny President Jimmy Carter a second term. Why? Because the anti-abortion crusade was more palatable than the religious right’s real motive: protecting segregated schools. So much for the new abolitionism.”
Personhood — No one knows, therefore you don’t get to decide.
“The Beginning of Life in Judaism” — According to Jewish law, human life begins at birth, not conception.”

Many cite the scripture Jeremiah 1:5, “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.” God is omnipotent. He has known all of us since before creation. Furthermore, the point of this scripture was the foretelling of a prophet, whom God would use for many things. God knew this in advance. This scripture is irrelevant as it pertains to when a fetus becomes a person. The same reasoning applies to Psalm 139:13-14.
Insane Abortion Laws
We aren’t OK with women bleeding out in Texas ERs, or women being arrested and jailed over “suspicious miscarriages,” which is happening throughout red states since the fall of Roe. All you have to do is Google it.
It’s time to rise up and make Roe the law of the land via federal legislation. The “Christian” Right is wrong.

I follow Bible SCHOLARS, not theologians with regard to what the Bible says. Dan McClellan is one of those scholars. Here’s what he said eleven months ago. He has posted on this subject several times and even written about it in his new book The Bible Tells Me So. Basically, most conservatives either don’t understand the context in which the “abortion” verses are understood, or rely on mistranslations of Scripture. Here is the link:
